Mark Inglis

 

 

Hi, my name is Mark Inglis and I’m from Kleinburg, Ontario.  I am a Landscape Architect and Recreation Planner.  I am married to Lorraine and we have two children, Danielle (29) and Jeff (27).  I curl at the Chinguacousy Curling Club in Brampton.

We have entered our family of four in Summer Spiels for 12 consecutive years including Nova Scotia, Ontario and British Columbia in Canada, Pittsburgh, USA and Cortina, Italy, finished with a win-loss record of 41-5.

Curling accomplishments

Coach Bantam boys and mixed teams 2012-17; 2016 team placed 2nd in Provincial championship and voted coach of the year; former coach of 5 junior teams; Level 2 certified; Level 3 technical/theory (Curling Competition Coach). I mentored my two children (Jeff and Danielle) who have advanced to win 7 provincial championships, 3 national championships, Silver medal at World Universiade (Harbin, China) and Champion at Karuizawa International (Japan).

Mentor – instruction and advice to new members at Thornhill G&CC 2007-2017; Ran Junior program at Brampton Curling Club 2001-2006 growing it from 10 to 65 regular participants.

Competition – OCA Men’s; Senior Men’s; Master’s Men’s; senior mixed; Toronto and District Senior men’s A champion, 2013 (vice); B champion, 2015 (skip). Club Champion, Mixed A Thornhill, 2014; Mixed B, Brampton; Mens League, 2000, Thornhill Mens A points champion, 2015.

Organizer- OCA director 2015-17; Co-Chair, U-18 Optimist International Curling Championships in Toronto 2011-12; Ontario Junior Curling Tour Chair 2006-2011; Junior Coordinator, Brampton Curling Club 2001-2006; Chair of the Brampton International Kiwanis CashSpiel 2001-2006.

Spectator – Attendee during 2010-2017: 6 Briers, 2 National Scotties and 3 Provincial Scotties, one Mixed Doubles Nationals and one Mixed Nationals.

Speaker - about curling at conferences: National Curling Summits 2014 and 2015; Ontario Curling Summit, September 2015; Parks and Recreation Ontario; Ontario Parks Association; Speaker at Scottish Women’s Tour, Thornhill Club, 2016. 

Writer:  regular contributor to popular press: CurlingZone blogs; Author of Club Curling Corner – The Curling News; blogs at www.yorkurbanist.com; editor of two newsletters currently and many in the past; author of parks and recreation master plans (including curling); technical writing of construction contracts and specifications for the construction of curling clubs.

  • Level 2 Badminton Coach and former ranked badminton player
  • Designed or renovated 11 golf courses
  • Led the design team for the $17m reconstruction of the African Savanna at Toronto Zoo
  • Patron Council supporter of McMichael Canadian Art Collection
  • Co-Chair, Pedestrian and Cycling Task Force, City of Vaughan, 2016-17. Interestingly, and embarrassingly during this time, I sustained a concussion and facial bone breaks in a cycling accident.
